Community Resources

Therapy & Rehabilitation Services

Access PROS (website): Many of our residents attend the PROS program where they receive individual psychotherapy, group therapy, psychiatry, and vocational/educational counseling. At PROS, the participating individual is assigned their own advocate that assists in setting goals and monitoring their progress in collaboration with The Academy House Community Residence staff members.

Dutchess Clinic and Wellness Center: The Wellness Center is an intensive rehabilitation treatment program, designed for individuals recovering from mental illness who want to make changes in their lives with regards to activities of daily living, learning, working and socializing.

VESID: Residents have the option to participate in the VESID Job training program where they work closely with a job coach to find a job suitable to each resident’s skills.

PEOPLe, Inc.: A non-profit organization that advocates for change and promotes recovery and independence within the mental health system.

Education & Volunteer Opportunities

Education: Dutchess Community College, Vassar College, and Marist College are all nearby, should residents choose to continue their educational pursuits. The Adult Learning Institute at Dutchess BOCES is also accessible. If residents would like to take a course at one of the countless local community agencies or art centers, staff will assist them in researching opportunities.

Volunteer Organizations: Residents can meet friends, share talents, or learn new skills with volunteer opportunities in organizations like the Poughkeepsie Farm Project, HANDS ON!, Red Cross, Alzheimer's Association, or local food pantries.
